Session IV (Thu)

16. Collaboration and Synergies between Helmholtz Imaging and HMC

by Philipp Heuser / Sara Krause-Solberg

  • Target group: HMC staff, people interested in imaging metadata
  • Abstract: This discussion round will explore how Helmholtz Imaging can support HMC projects and individuals working with imaging metadata. We will examine overlaps between the core topics of both platforms, identify open questions arising from these overlaps, and discuss HMC's and Project's interest in collaboration. The goal is to identify synergies and opportunities for enhanced cooperation in managing and utilizing imaging metadata effectively.
  • Objective: Foster collaboration between HMC and Helmholtz Imaging
  • Agenda: Discussion & brainstorming

17. Transforming pilots into sustainable services (Group I)

by Oonagh Mannix

  • Target group: not specified (max. 10 participants)
  • Abstract: Turning an idea into a pilot is exciting. Funding is obtained and staff are allocated. This support often falls away at the critical next step of scaling the pilot into a service with expanded user base. This break-out will brainstorm ideas on how to navigate the transition successfully.
  • Objective: Create a roadmap for successful pilots to turn into sustainable services.
  • Agenda: Brainstorming

18. How can we better support the projects (Group I)

by Witold Arndt

  • Target group: past, current and perspective HMC projects PIs & participants, HMC Apparatchiks (HMC-A: Office, Co, SB, CB, SAB), Incubator people, (max. 15 participants)
  • Abstract: We want to keep the instrument of HMC Calls as a dynamic, fast-paced approach to tangible solutions for meta-data centric workflow challenges in Helmholtz research. At the same time, we have now an opportunity to adapt this call to large-scale changes in the research fields, a stronger collaboration between the platforms and incorporate lessons learned from the past four instalments. We want to focus on further integrating the future projects into the HMC ecosystem and their deliverables into our portfolio.
  • Objective: Review the call, discuss problems, create a draft of a white paper for HMC-A to develop on further.
  • Agenda: Focus group discussion:
    • Introduction, expectations, scope, housekeeping [5 min, Witold]
    • Collection of experience (good, bad, ugly) [20 min; all]
    • Outlook on future options of calls [10 min; Witold, HMC-A, Incubator, …]
    • What should we try to implement in any case? [15 min; Office]

19.Building a Cross-Domain Compass for Research Standards (Hackathon)

by Markus Kubin, Gerrit Günther

  • Target group: data professionals, data managers and -stewards, and researchers from all scientific disciplines (max. 20 participants)
  • Abstract: This hackathon session aims to address the critical need for improved mapping of vocabularies, schemas, and standards across various research domains. Participants will learn about resources collected by HMC, followed by a collaborative effort to identify and describe vocabularies, schemas, and standards used in research data management projects. The session will focus on understanding individual approaches to resource discovery, identifying gaps in current knowledge, and collecting information on actively used resources. Key goals include mapping resources to specific research fields, gathering recommendations and target groups, and identifying cross-domain applications. Beyond cross-domain information exchange, the outcomes of this session will directly contribute to enhancing the collection of resources hosted by HMC, providing a more comprehensive and accessible resource for the research community.
  • Objective: Key goals include mapping resources to specific research fields, gathering recommendations and target groups, and identifying cross-domain applications.
  • Agenda: Workshop

20. Assessment, implementation and dissemination of project results within and outside of the HMC community (Group I)

by Emanuel Söding, Inken Kruse

  • Target group: Hubs, Projekt PIs, data stewards (max. 15 participants)
  • Abstract: The project is over – how do we deal with the results? To this date, 28 projects have developed and are currently developing tools and other deliverables to solve problems that inhibit scientific data to enter the FAIR data space. All 9 projects of the first HMC Call have ended and have each made their results available. In this breakout, we want to deal with the following questions. With the overall goal of the Helmholtz Data Space in mind:
  1. What would the ideal outcome of an HMC project look like? What is the ideal deliverable?
  2. How do we assess the generalized value of the results for various stakeholders and the data space?
  3. How can we motivate project PIs to interact with interested parties, to support the broad(er) implementation of their results?
  4. How do we address potentially interested parties to implement the project results? How do we promote the added-values to them
  5. Can we draw general conclusions from the very diverse results and implementation plans of the projects for creating use cases and for upcoming project calls?
  • Objective: see above
  • Agenda: Discussion & brainstorming
