Description
This is the kickoff workshop for Thrill WP5.4 -- machine learning (ML) model for laser stabilization. During this workshop, we want to discuss the preferred targets, like beam pointing or spectral properties, which have impact on how experiments are conducted at our partner facilities and invite partners from all Thrill WPs to participate in this discussion. In order to define a common goal and coordinate forces, the scope of potential contributions ML can make will be presented alongside a review of past outcomes within the laser community. As ML methods require continuous access data to both be developed and employed, data acquisition and management at partner facilities at ELI, GSI, HZDR, LULI, Amplitude and X-FEL will be presented and discussed to define future directions.

Optimization of High-Power Laser Pulse Temporal Shape

We study the optimization of high-power laser pulse temporal shape to obtain the shortest possible pulse
duration by employing a control feedback loop between a pulse shaper and pulse duration measurements instrument.
Performance of five optimization algorithms were explored - the Differential Evolution algorithm, the Nelder-Mead
algorithm, and three hybridization approaches of Differential Evolution (DE), Bayesian optimization (BO) and Nelder-
Mead (NM) algorithms. The hybrid algorithms perform the exploration with the DE or BO algorithm and the
exploitation with the NM algorithm. Algorithms were tested on a semi-physical model of the actual laser based on
linear and nonlinear phase accumulation. We find that the hybridization of the algorithms yields better overall results.
