Reception and Overview of the programme
Welcome address by HIFIS speaker V. Guelzow
Talks given to the broad audience, discussing the current state of events and topics of general interest.
Uwe Jandt (HIFIS Office Coordinator) presents the status and roadmap of HIFIS, highlights some achievements and provides links to the detailed talks in the following sessions.
10 min presentation + 10 minutes discussion
We present the structure of the Helmholtz AAI (Authentication and Authorization Infrastructure) and what the options are for service providers, including the login flow from a user's perspective.
15 min presentation + 10 minutes discussion
The service selection process has been worked out to efficiently identify the services which fulfill the selection criteria best and which should consequently be integrated into Helmholtz cloud first.
At the end of this process, 38 services offered by nine Helmholtz Centers were selected. Considering that some services are provided by several centers, the initial service portfolio includes 21 different services.
10 min presentation + 10 minutes discussion
Don't forget to stretch, rest your eyes and give your ears a breather from these headphones.
Talks given to the broad audience, discussing the current state of events and topics of general interest.
The HIFIS cloud cluster presents the status and roadmap of the access infrastructure for the Helmholtz Cloud Services: Technical Platform, Service Integration and Administrative considerations. We will talk on pilot success stories and provide a roadmap for the integration of services.
10 min presentation + 10 minutes discussion
HIFIS Software provides a status quo, lessons learned and a forecast on their work packages "communities" and "education & training", as well as a brief overview on the HIFIS Software Survey 2020.
15 min presentation + 5 minutes discussion
HIFIS's task is to provide seemless consultant and cloud services to domain scientists within and also outside Helmholtz. However, in many cases, scientists are not aware of - and more often have no incentive to dig into - best practices of software engineering and cloud services.
We'd like to get your ideas on addressing this "IT knowledge gap" to foster convergence of scientist's demands and IT services.
OpenStack offers many ways to build and run a common federated IaaS cloud. In the breakout session we would like to discuss possible concepts for a stronger connection of the OpenStack environments in HIFIS.
This discussion session will deal with two main directions of promotion for HIFIS: Towards the scientific community as the main user base and towards decision-makers as impactful supporters for the HIFIS efforts.
In this session, we'd like to collect ideas on how to implement a Helmholtz-wide distributed Sync&Share solution, e.g. using GlobalScale.
The service portfolio of the Helmholtz cloud is continuously being developed. In the future, the service selection will forster user's requirements and introduce processes and incentives to provide new services, if strong demand can be identified.
Time to wind down the discussion and collect our thoughts on the things that were said.
Talks given to the broad audience, discussing the current state of events and topics of general interest.
An Overview of the planned Helmholtz Backbone (VPN) network infrastructure, the current implementation work and future steps will be given.
Motivation, pilot implementation, roadmap and use cases for the HIFIS Data Transfer Service.
Updates on HIFIS Software cluster consulting and technology services.
Get a coffee, tea, whatever you like and contemplate on the events of the morning
Talks given to the broad audience, discussing the current state of events and topics of general interest.
We give an update about the tracking and implementation of the Helmholtz Cloud service integration process.
5 minutes presentation + 10 minutes discussion.
Tour-de-Helmholtz demonstration of an exemplary use case, exploiting the seamless interaction of multiple services distributed over various centres of the Helmholtz Association. We will showcase the power of the central authentication and authorization infrastructure (AAI), as well as the possibility to connect dedicated services from multiple locations to an efficient and convenient workflow.
10-15 minutes demonstration + discussion
In the light of the just demonstrated Helmholtz Cloud services, the development of the Cloud Technical Platform is briefly outlined.
approx. 5 minutes presentation + discussion
5 minutes demo + 5 minutes discussion.
VC rooms and chats will remain open for ~1 h if any further discussion or meetings are desired.
