In the morning and in the afternoon on work-days, there is a direct bus connection (bus No. 691) between Potsdam main station (bus platform 7) and the GFZ campus. To arrive on the first day, please consider taking the bus at 08:18 AM or 8:38 AM. A timetable can be found here.
Walking directions from the railway station to Campus Telegrafenberg
Once you arrived at Potsdam central main station, exit the railway station in the direction of the bus stop. Cross the bus stop and the street (Friedrich-Engels Straße), and contnue further straight. Then cross the Heinrich-Mann-Allee and keep walking straight, veer left uphill on the Albert-Einstein-Straße. Make sure not to end up on the main street (Brauhausberg) which veers right after Heinrich-Mann-Allee. Keep walking straight up the Albert-Einstein-Straße, pass the outdoor climbing park on the left, and continue until you reach the entrance to the telegrafenberg science park (marked as red star below). Once you enter Telegrafenberg go straght ahead until you reach House H (on the left, the building with a terasse on top).
Transportation (to Potsdam)
By plane
Berlin has one airport: the Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER) Terminal 1&2. From there, you can reach Potsdam central main station by public transport (see below) and also by taking a taxi or renting a car.
A taxi from the airport will cost around €90 and take about 45 minutes. Renting a car for two days costs approximately €160.
By bus and train
You can find the most convenient connection for you on the VBB website (Destination: Potsdam, Telegrafenberg) or on google maps.
In general you have three options:
- take the RB22 (direction Potsdam Hauptbahnhof). It will take ~50 minutes and a ticket is ~ € 4,00 (ticket zone BC). The train leaves once an hour from the airport railway station.
- take the (airport) bus BER2 (direction Potsdam Hauptbahnhof). It will take ~57 minutes and a ticket is ~ € 4,00 + extra fee of € 6,00 (ticket zone BC). The train leaves once an hour from the airport bus stop (A2).
- take an RE or S-Bahn to Berlin and change to S7 to go to Potsdam Hauptbahnhof. A ticket is ~ € 4,40 (ticket zone ABC) (not recommended as it will take longer and requires change of trains)
Tickets
Tickets need to be purchased before boarding the train. Ticket machines are located in the lobby before the entrance to the train station and on the platform. If you travel by bus you can either purchase the ticket beforehand or directly on the bus. If you buy your ticket from the ticket machine, please make sure to validate the ticket once before entering the bus or the train.
Please be aware that non-European Credit cards may or may not work.

Please park your car outside the entrance gate (no parking on campus) and note that the number of parking places may be limited.
