Conference Proceedings - OUT NOW

deRSE24 Post-Conference Proceedings - OUT NOW

The deRSE24 Conference Proceedings are now available at ECEASST.

Call for Submissions: deRSE24 Post-Conference Proceedings

For the first time in the series of deRSE conferences, we are planning to compile and publish a post-conference proceedings volume to capture the wealth of knowledge and experiences presented during the event.

Submission Guidelines:

All contributors to the deRSE24 conference are invited to submit a journal-length version of their conference contribution for inclusion in this special proceedings volume. The extended submissions should provide a more in-depth exploration of the presented contributions, offering additional details and insights. We explicitly encourage contributors of similar topics to consider teaming up for joint papers, to leverage synergies and impact.

Review Process:

All submissions will undergo a rigorous peer-review process. The reviewers will evaluate the submissions based on their relevance, significance, technical soundness and quality of presentation. Feedback from the reviewers will be provided to authors to facilitate improvements and enhance the final publication. Please note that we expect all authors to be willing to contribute to the reviewing process, that is, we might ask you to review other submissions in your area of expertise.

Publication Venue:

Accepted submissions will be published in the diamond open-access journal ECEASST (Electronic Communications of the European Association for Software Science and Technology). There will be no cost to the authors for the publication of their work.

Important Dates:

  • Submissions: until 17th May 2024
  • Review Period: until 30th June 2024
  • Notification of Acceptance: until 7th July 2024
  • Final versions: until 31st July 2024

Submission Instructions:

Submissions must be prepared using the ECEASST template. There is no strict page limit, but please consult with the volume editors if your submission is shorter than six or longer than 25 pages.

To be considered for the volume, submissions must be uploaded through the ECEASST system by the submission deadline (see “Important Dates”).

Questions and Answers

Who can submit?

Every contribution from deRSE24 (and also deRSE23)

Just to clarify: A poster is also eligible?

Yes, all contributions are invited as long as there is scientific value for the RSE community, including demos, workshops, Hackathons ...

Should the title of the paper be the same as the title of the talk?

There is no need to have the same title but same topic. It is also possible to have new contributions which are a combination of different deRSE24 contributions for the same topic.

Can we combine contributions from previous years with ones from this year's conference?

Yes, if not published before.

Can we contribute some kind of "success story" paper about the RSE work carried out on the software portfolio we work on, or RSE community building efforts? Possibly using a completed or ongoing RSE grant as the starting point for the manuscript, e.g. a milestone report.

Yes, it is possible if evaluation data or other methods of demonstrating success are presented. The contribution should add value to the RSE field, and should be more than just be a "grant report".

Can I publish a paper about my software?

Generally "yes" but we encourage people to better go for JOSS a publication. Publishing a software paper in ECEASST could make it difficult to later publish about the software in JOSS or similar journals, since it would no longer be seen as a "new" software. If it focuses more on the generated results and the ideas surrounding them, then this might be a more suitable publication platform.

Why the journal ECEASST was chosen?

  • diamond open access (No fees for authors)
  • indexed in scopus, dblp, etc.
  • Anna-Lena Lamprecht is one of the chairs
  • hosted at TU Berlin Library > will move to Berlin Universities Publishing (will stay!)

When will a template be released?

  • The template is here.
  • It is a LaTeX Template but if needed it can also be converted to Word.
  • The resulting paper can be uploaded as PDF.

How does the review process look like?

  • It is planned to have 2 or 3 reviews per paper.
  • 1 review from a "senior" RSE.
  • 1 or 2 others who also contributed to another paper.

Is it a rejection/acceptance or a major revision?

Originally the review process is planned only with rejection and acceptance with a minor revision

How long should the paper be?

From a minimum of 6 to a maximum of 25 pages; if more pages are needed, please contact the editors first.

What’s the best way to submit “issues” with the journal/template etc.?

Mail to Anna-Lena Lamprecht.
