The city of Würzburg lies on the banks of the Main river in the heart of Franconia, a region famous for its wine and cultural heritage. So don’t miss out on getting an impression of the old town during your stay. Two major highlights are the Baroque Residence, Unesco World heritage site since 1982, and the Fortress Marienberg, from which you can oversee the cities silhouette with its numerous towers and vine hills surrounding the city. The fortress is connected to the old town by the old Main bridge on which in summer Würzburgs residents savour some of the local franconian wines, such as Sylvaner, Scheurebe or Riesling. To taste them you can also go into the many bars or restaurants in the city.
