The Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf (HZDR) is facing up to the great challenges of our time. Its core task is to provide knowledge and technologies for the next generations,
- in order to research future materials and technologies under extreme conditions and develop them to the point of application;
- to develop radiation based diagnostic and therapeutic methods to combat the widespread disease of cancer;
- and to support the transition to sustainable industry through research on resource and energy efficiency.
By focusing on these key areas in combination with a continuous monitoring of its progress, the HZDR ensures to conduct cutting-edge research in order to achieve advances that can have a positive impact on society and the environment. As part of the Helmholtz Association's Program-Oriented Funding (PoF), the HZDR participates with other centers in overarching programs within the Research Fields Energy, Health and Matter. The program period has a duration of 7 years. The progress is reviewed by international experts in an established procedure as part of detailed scientific assessments. The resulting evaluation and the associated report do not only determine the further course of program implementation in the current period, but are also fed into the strategic process for setting up research in the following period.
