There is a new app available for public transportation in Hamburg, which calculates the best rate based on your daily trips. The app is called hvv Any. You have to register once for the service. After that you simply "check in" when ever you start a ride. The "check out" is registered automatically. You can also add further passengers for individual rides. The app is available for iOS and Android systems.
Of course, buying "old-fashioned" tickets (paper or digital) is also possible.
