Personal Laptop Installation

Personal Laptop
Your personal computer is needed to perform the course exercises.

In case you want to use your personal computer to preform the course exercises, please verify the correct functioning of FLUKA and FLAIR already prior to the course start. Please make sure that you chose the correct download file from the FLUKA download page  which matches your computer's configuration in terms of compiler and glibc-Versions. In case you use the Windows operating system, a solution based on docker can be found here.

You can find information concerning installation of FLUKA at http://www.fluka.org/fluka.php?id=ins_run&mm2=3,

Additional information can be found in the FLUKA Discussion Mailing List http://www.fluka.org/web_archive/earchive/new-fluka-discuss/index.html

or the FAQs http://www.fluka.org/content/discuss-faq/faq-list.html.

To download and install the "FLUKA Advanced Interface FLAIR", please follow the instructions given at the FLAIR download page (don't forget to also install the flair-geoviewer package!).

Since FLUKA and FLAIR both run natively on Linux, a certain amount of prior knowledge on Linux is required to make the most out of this FLUKA course. There are some useful ressources at the following links:
https://tldp.org/LDP/gs/node5.html
https://swcarpentry.github.io/shell-novice/aio.html

Also some knowledge on text editors is highly recommended, one possibility is to use the nano editor in Linux:

If you experience problems, please contact us in advance in order to avoid installation and configuration problems during the course.
