BUILD THE FUTURE OF SCIENTIFIC CONTROL SYSTEMS
Are you a student or young professional passionate about pushing the boundaries of science and technology? Do you want to learn how to design and implement cutting-edge control systems for some of the world's most complex scientific instruments?
Join us for an immersive 2-week summer school at the BESSY II synchrotron in Berlin!
What you will learn
During the event, you will gain insights into the engineering principles underlying particle accelerators and other large-scale scientific projects. You will learn how scientists and engineers collaborate to conduct groundbreaking experiments and operate these machines with the highest level of precision. You will acquire a deep understanding of the control systems that govern big scientific pojects and have the opportunity to work on a hands-on project utilizing real scientific hardware.
Specifically, you will:
- Gain insights into the scientific principles of particle accelerators and other large-scale scientific machines.
- Learn the fundamentals of EPICS: the Experimental Physics and Industrial Control System.
- Learn the principles of a distributed control system and how to interact with it to perform scientific experiments.
- Work with fellow students on a challenging group project using real hardware (lasers, mirrors, motors, cameras, magnets, power supplies, and more).
- Visit the BESSY II Experimental Hall and the HZB Proton Therapy Facility with tours guided by our scientists and engineers.
