Nuclear Astrophysics is an exciting field with many highlights in recent years in observational astronomy, simulating astrophysics, experimental and theoretical nuclear physics. Therefore, the training and interaction of young scientists, PhD students and postdocs, are important for further progress and expand this community.

We are organizing a Summer School on "Nuclear Physics in Astrophysics" in connection to the International Conference on Nuclear Physics in Astrophysics XI. It will be held at Burghotel Stolpen, Germany, from September 8 (arrival) to 15 (departure or transit to the conference), 2024.

The topics of the lectures include:

  • experimental nuclear physics: study of neutron capture reactions, experiments with radioactive ion beams, detection of supernova traces on Earth
  • nuclear reaction and nucleosynthesis theory
  • galactic archaeology and multi-messenger astronomy

Participants will also engage in the following hands-on activities:

  • DZA day: A day focusing on the upcoming German center for Astrophysics
  • Experimental hands-on day with one of the three following infrastructures: HAMSTER accelerator mass spectrometry, gELBE bremsstrahlung facility, Felsenkeller underground laboratory,
  • Training day for Nuclear Astrophysics Masterclasses

The number of participants (students and young postdocs) is limited to 30 and hence, only a limited number can be accepted. The selection will be made based on the student's motivation letter, on the supervisor's letter-of-recommendation, and on the goal to be fully inclusive and to ensure gender balance.

Young scientiest (students and young postdocs) are encouraged to apply for the school by registration via this indico page. Registration CLOSED on May 31st, 2024.

ChETEC-INFRA, DZA, EURO-LABS, IReNA, and NuPECC will provide financial support to accepted students, partially covering local costs (i.e., meals and accommodation).
