Description

As part of a German national project called AcE (Actinide immobilization by incorporation into solid phasEs relevant for final disposal) funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) we will organize a methods workshop at the Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf from Monday 20th to Wednesday 22nd of March 2023 in hybrid format.

The workshop is aimed at European students and early career scientists working in the fields of materials science and spent nuclear fuel/high-level waste disposal, with the goal of educating and connecting emerging scientists in these fields. The workshop will focus on important methods (including some basic theory and background) for the characterization of crystalline inorganic solid phases containing actinides.

Venue and format

The AcE-Methods workshop will be organized as a hybrid event:

On-location

Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf / Institute of Resource Ecology / Bautzner Landstraße 400, 01328 Dresden, Germany

Online

Zoom (link will be distributed to registered participants only)

Contributions and registration

Students are especially encouraged to participate in person, to enable networking between early career scientists and the establishment of new contacts.

Workshop contributions are welcome in form of scientific talks addressing one of the topics of the workshop. Topics include Synthesis and Structural Analysis, Spectroscopy and Microscopy, and Physical and Chemical Properties as outlined in the workshop schedule below.

Please send an abstract using the template below by 20th of January 2023 to ace-methods@hzdr.de.

Registration via this homepage will open on 1st of November 2022, and closes on 17th of March 2023.

Participation is free of charge! Attendance certificates will be provided upon request.
