Efficient literature search and management

In this course, you will learn how to search the literature that is relevant for you: systematically, automatically and completely. In the second part, you will learn how to manage and evaluate found literature and how to take notes.

Content:

Part 1 (December 1): How to perform systematic literature searches

• Identifying the most important publications on a topic.
• Gaining orientation within a research field and discovering connections.
• Formulating complex search queries for literature databases.
• Staying up to date with current research and setting up literature alerts.
• Literature search for specific scientific disciplines in HDS-LEE. Research data repositories.

Part 2 (December 2): How to manage literature and knowledge

• Managing different types of information like papers, figures, data, code
• Identifying which information should be collected
• Putting structure into your personal research library
• Annotating papers
• Writing remarks and short texts on papers
• Structuring note-taking texts.
• Reusable templates for note-taking

The training days are based on each other; therefore, the participation in both training days is requested. Please bring your specific questions and feel free to share them with the trainers in advance. During the course, there will be time for exercises and questions.
