Topic 5 Annual Meeting
We cordially invite all scientists, PhDstudents, students and technical staff working within Topic 5 to the second on-site Annual Meeting of Topic 5 “Landscape of the Future – Securing Terrestrial Ecosystems and Freshwater Resources under Natural Dynamics and Global Change”.

The Meeting will take place at the Helmholtz Center for Environmental Research (UFZ) in Leipzig, on November 10-11 2025. This will be the second meeting of all our four participating centers: AWI, HEREON, GFZ and UFZ.
What can you expect from the Annual Meeting 2025?
Our last meeting in 2024 was a great success. The positive feedback showed how much you value the various lively and creative exchange formats. In addition, the excellent and outstanding ratings we received in the quality review in spring 2025 confirmed that we are conducting fantastic research in Topic 5. In particular, the social relevance of our research was repeatedly highlighted by the reviewers.
We are taking this as an opportunity to make storytelling in science the theme of this year's annual meeting. We want to go beyond exchanging research ideas – and work with you to develop new and engaging ways of communicating our science of Topic 5. There are many different ways to develop compelling stories and then tell them by e.g. Storytelling, Video production, Social media, Podcasting, Scientific communication with AI,... For this, we have secured the professional support of Science42 to design a compelling course program for the two days.
