Description

Overview

Communicating complex research in a clear and compelling way is a vital skill for early-career researchers. Whether you're writing a paper, preparing a talk, or drafting a grant proposal, strong communication begins with a strong narrative. This interactive two-part workshop helps you develop those skills using the ABT (And-But-Therefore) storytelling framework and targeted editing techniques to enhance clarity, coherence, and impact across written and verbal formats.

What You'll Learn

You'll explore two complementary storytelling tools: the ABT framework and the “Two Giants with a Golden Key” model—a metaphorical structure for organizing complex ideas with intention. The course combines tutor input, group work, and hands-on exercises to help you:

  • Structure your ideas with narrative logic

  • Choose precise, powerful language

  • Edit for flow, focus, and clarity

  • Communicate your research confidently—on paper and out loud

Each session emphasizes learning by doing, including a short homework activity between sessions to deepen your understanding and support long-term skill development.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the workshop, you will be able to:

  • Structure your research using the ABT framework
  • Apply storytelling techniques to make your research more engaging
  • Edit text for clarity, focus, and narrative flow
  • Draft a compelling abstract with clear purpose and logic
  • Present your research without slides—clearly and confidently
  • Offer and apply constructive feedback to improve communication
