Data Analysis and Visualization

This is an intensive course on Pandas data analysis, uncovering trends and artifacts in data, as well as visualization using Matplotlib. The course is intended to run for at least three days, with the option to split to shorter sessions in a longer period.

This course covers basics in data analysis and some cornerstone skills usable in everyday scientific work. The course will cover at least these topics:

  • Data analysis basics
  • Pandas Time Series and Data Operations
  • Visualization Basics
  • Matplotlib: Beyond presentation

On demand, and depending on the progress during the course, a choice of in-depth addons can be implemented:

  • Geospatial visualization in Python
  • 3D visualization using VTK/Python
  • Information processing and estimation
  • Classical Machine Learning Approaches

This course will be loosely based on the HIDA course on the same topic: https://codebase.helmholtz.cloud/hifis/software/education/hifis-workshops/python-pandas-and-matplotlib

We will be employing some soil-systems focused techniques (if time allows), analysing:

  • TERENO Data
  • Trend analysis and forecasts
  • Uncovering correlated effects
