Description

Time-resolved processes present a unique challenge in image processing where the temporal resolution sets an additional constraint upon not only the experimental setup but also the reconstruction of the data, as the trade-off between the feasible acquisition rate and rotation speed increasingly matters. However, some processes such as laser beam welding, where a high energy laser beam is used to join two metallic bulk materials or the nucleation of dendrites in an AlGe alloy take place at speeds that come close to this limit.
In cases where the temporal resolution proves sufficient, segmentation challenges take center stage that require unique approaches to get the required information which ranges from the evolution of intermetallic particles in recycling aluminum to the observation of charging cycles in batteries.
In this presentation we display several case studies, show-casing approaches, trip falls, and solutions as applied e.g. to laser beam welding of AlSi9Cu3(Fe) die-cast, nucleation of dendrites in AlGe alloy, evolution of AlFeSi-particles in 6xxx-Al alloys and cycle charging of batteries.
