What does it take to welcome over 400 international guest scientists each year? How are workshops, seminars, and research stays at MPIPKS made possible? Gain first-hand insights into the diverse and complex tasks behind the scenes from the head of the MPIPKS visitors program, Dr. Pablo Pérez Martín (former doctoral researcher at HZDR).
From visa and residence permit support to housing, schools, daycare, language courses, and dealing with German bureaucracy – the team at the visitors program ensures that guest scientists can fully focus on their research. They coordinate stays for researchers at all academic levels, from doctoral researchers to senior scientists on sabbatical, and help run more than 15 scientific events each year.
He will be joined by Panos Giannakeas, coordinator of the International Max Planck Research School (IMPRS) for Quantum Dynamics and Control hosted at MPIPKS. The IMPRS has strong links to other Dresden institutes as well as to institutions in Wroclaw (Poland) and Prague (Czech Republic) and supports about 60 students based in groups in these partner institutions. The students not only have the chance to conduct research on the fields of Atomic and Chemical Physics, Condensed Matter, Information Science and Quantum Optics at a cutting-edge level, but also receive support through seminars, workshops, lecture courses and soft skills training. And Panos coordinates all this activity while also still conducting his own research and embarking on his own scientific projects.
Do not miss your chance to discover the inner workings of science support at MPIPKS!
