The coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 consists of many different molecules that allow it to infect cells and convert them into "virus factories". The three-dimensional structures of these molecules are determined with photon, neutron and electron radiation as well as NMR. Once these are known, drugs can be developed to specifically prevent the molecules from functioning and hinder infection.
In this lecture, Andrea Thorn uses models and animations to give an insight into her research as head of the international "Coronavirus Structural Task Force" utilizing big data analyses, a global data base and expert knowledge to fight COVID-19.
