The SARS-CoV-2 pandemic has proven to be a systemic global crisis characterized by huge economic, social and ecological impacts. Consequently, an important research avenue is the development of a deeper understanding of how to increase coping capacities of nations facing pandemic crises in the future: What are the essential success factors in coping with the recent pandemic among nations? And how can coping capacities be increased in various national configurations to better handle similar future crises?

Answers to these questions can be extremely relevant for policy makers, health agencies, technology developers and also the responsible community leaders who plan prevention and intervention measures for similar future pandemics.

Numerous large and multifaceted data sets have become available worldwide. Advanced data science methods can be used to analyze them. Comprehensive and robust coupling of epidemiological and socio-economic model systems is possible. By bringing together experts from the fields of data science, data analyses, modeling and intervention strategies, the event organizers strive to tie down as many lessons learned as possible so that promising and urgent research avenues for the future can be identified.
