PhD Workshop Topic 7: Towards a Sustainable Bioeconomy – Resources, Utilization, Engineering and AgroEcosystems

Welcome to this year's Topic 7 PhD Workshop “Towards a sustainable Bioeconomy” on 16. and 17. November 2022 as a joint event of UFZ, FZJ, KIT, GEOMAR and AWI. The workshop will take place in Leipzig.

The goals of our PhD Workshop are

The program

The program will start on Wednesday evening with an Icebreaker in the city centre.

In order to give you as much time as possible to talk with each other, most of the meeting time on Thursday is dedicated to three poster sessions in which you have the opportunity to become acquainted to each other and to start networking. Thursday's program will take place in the Leipziger KUBUS.

You will present your poster in one of three poster sessions and you will be free to visit other posters during the other two sessions. The posters will be thematically grouped to facilitate bringing together students with similar interests:

  1. Process engineering and development (biotechnological/energy production, biorefinery, separation/downstream processing, membrane technology, waste water treatment, urban water and energy, process analytics)
  2. Modeling, simulation and data science (bio-informatics, systems biology/ecology, light-weight structures, transport processes, bio/chemical reactions, data management, software engineering, machine learning, image analysis/reconstruction, HPC, digitalization)
  3. Microbes, microbial communities and plant cells (metabolic/genetic networks, microbial/cellular interactions, plant-microbe interactions, omics analytics, single cell analytics)
  4. Agro-Ecosystems, food production and plant-based technologies (plant phenotyping, rhizosphere, critical zone, bio-geochemical cycles, chemical fate, farming systems, urban green, sensing technologies, water resources, aquaculture)

All four themes will be represented in each of the poster sessions.

Who is invited?

We cordially invite all PhDs working within Topic 7 to the onsite event in KUBUS Leipzig.
