Visualizations help at all stages of a research project, from hypothesis generation, to data exploration, and communication of results in publications, posters, or slides. In this course, participants learn the principles to design truthful and insightful visualizations. This includes choosing display types, applying graphic design principles that enhance figure readability, and ethical aspects of data presentation. This course requires 9 hours of your time, and is set for 3 mornings. We will benefit from the flexibility of online teaching with live sessions, group work, and exercises that you do alone or in pairs, and reading materials.
We will use breakout rooms and discussion boards to exchange ideas and content.
We will not use specific software in this course. Participants are encouraged to use pen and paper during the design process, however we may look at, and discuss advantages/disadvantages for common softwares such as R, sigmaplot, Matlab, Illustrator, Powerpoint, and Excel.
The course is organized by HZDR/FWCC and is free of charge. Content is provided by Helena Jambor.
If you have content questions, please contact Helena. If you have technical issues, also contact her or if that doesn't work, the organizers (emails see below).
