Description

Scientific posters and presentations often suffer from one thing: too much information. The actual message gets lost. In this hands-on workshop, you will learn how to strip visuals down to their essence and design with your audience in mind. Using scissors, glue, and a photocopier, we will explore how reducing and rethinking design elements can make your message clearer, stronger, and more engaging.

You will practice both the designer’s and the recipient’s perspective: first by redesigning an existing poster in black and white, then by analyzing and evaluating the results together. In the final part, we will apply these insights to your own scientific posters.

What you will learn:

  • Identify and sharpen the core message of your poster

  • Consider the audience’s perspective in the design process

  • Use reduction and omission to create clarity and impact

  • Apply basic principles of layout, contrast, and hierarchy – without software

  • Gain confidence to experiment and be bold in your visual communication
