BR50 is the network of the non-university research institutions in Berlin. Dr. Sommerfeld earned her PhD in Atmospheric Physics from the Alfred Wegener Institute (AWI) in Potsdam and went on to work as a Postdoc before coordinating MOSAiC, the largest polar expedition in history. Now in different but equally exciting role at BR50, she represents the interests of non-university research institutions across Berlin, including those of the Max Planck Society, in the Helmholtz and Leibniz associations and the federal departmental research institutions.
