Background

The module will provide attendees with a fundamental understanding of essential financial concepts and strategies. It will help founders, managers, and non-financial professionals to understand the most important elements of financial statements, metrics, and key financial concepts - especially those necessary in early phases of developing and establishing a new venture. It provides practical insights into how business model, business plan, and business financials are connected and how to create meaningful financial projections. Participants will be engaged in hand-on exercises to apply their financial intelligence.

Target audience

PhDs and Postdocs across the Helmholtz Association. This module may also be of interest for Helmholtz transfer and talent management offices (e.g. TTOs, Career Development Center and Graduate Schools), or Spin-off teams who are already pursuing a business idea.

Benefits

Participants will gain a fundamental understanding of the most relevant financial aspects of a startup or new venture. Financial intelligence will lead to better decision-making in early phase venue building and the ability to communicate more effectively with business and financial experts. The goal of this webinar is to help participants improve the connections between business model and financial planning. It will help to better navigate the financial aspects of their roles and organisation.
