Supervisor's Forum activity: Peer Group Supervision [6/2025]

Peer group supervision is an effective form of leaderless peer group counseling. Participants discuss challenging situation of one of the supervisors (case presenter) in order to provide solutions. Participants learn better ways to manage professional problems and reduce stress. It can be used as a tool to:

• improve the quality of supervision by peer-based feedback on a particular theme or a specific issue;
• provide support to resolve conflicts and difficult problems;
• tap into the potential of the FZJ supervisors network
• learn from peers to avoid or solve problems that might occur in future.

This activity is part of the initiatives of the Supervisor's Forum and is meant for the benefit of the Forschungszentrum Juelich Supervisors. The meetings will abide to following set of rules:

• It is based on volunteers. There is no restriction to participate as long as the participant is a postdoc or act as a supervisor of phd students.

• Each meeting should have enough participants to constitute at least one group (6-10 people).

• The groups composition should be the most heterogeneous possible. Ideally no two people of the same institute should be part of the same group. This is to allow the participants to be as open as possible and eliminate any bias.

• Members of a group abide to a confidentiality agreement meant to protect the people whose information is shared in the group
