Solid knowledge management skills are crucial for making good progress in academic research. In this workshop, you will learn general strategies and how to implement these in modern software solutions to significantly enhance your research efficiency and productivity. We will explore methods for building and prioritizing your reading list, as well as strategies for effective literature notes. We'll also discuss best practices for quickly capturing fleeting ideas, documenting experiments, and taking efficient meeting notes. You will also learn how to use modern tools – specifically Zotero for reference management and Obsidian for note-taking – to implement these ideas in highly efficient workflows. Upon completing this workshop, you will have a functional software environment that will allow you to quickly collect and prioritize your literature, effectively sort your annotations with advanced queries, and allow you to make use of templates to add consistency and speed to your note-taking.
No prior technical background knowledge is assumed. However, participants should be able / have the rights to install new software on their system.
