To comply with the FAIR principles for Research Software (FAIR4RS), specific competencies are required. This work examines the software engineering fundamentals embedded within the FAIR4RS principles and discusses which competency areas can be supported through the development of automated workflows within the NFDIxCS research infrastructure. The Research Data Management Container (RDMC) and its Reusable Execution Environment (REE) help automate key aspects such as metadata generation and provenance tracking. These are complemented by structured training efforts within NFDIxCS to support competency development.
