The GFZ Helmholtz Centre for Geosciences on behalf of the GeoLaB consortium is inviting you for the 1st GeoLaB Scientific Conference to be held in Potsdam from 09.-11.04.2025 and to submit abstracts for oral or poster presentations.
GeoLaB is the geothermal underground research laboratory of the Helmholtz Centres KIT, GFZ, UFZ and the partner institutions TU Darmstadt and BGE under development (https://geolab.helmholtz.de/). The GeoLaB research infrastructure serves to develop innovative and sustainable geothermal technologies on a scientific basis. Following extensive exploration a site decision will be made based on which construction will start ultimately enabling scientific on-site experiments.
We invite contributions to all themes related to the exploration, development and scientific use of underground research laboratories including experimental, numerical and field work of interest. GeoLaB is adressing fundamental as well as applied research topics.
- Coupled thermal-hydraulic-mechanical-(bio)chemical processes (THMC) with state-of-the-art visualisation and a ‘digital twin’
- Flow experiments under controlled conditions (CHFE - Controlled High-Flow Experiments) as the basis for efficient and sustainable management of fractured reservoirs
- Development of efficient construction and utilisation strategies for underground facilities
- Development of technology and assessment criteria for the integrity of deep wells
- Development of novel stimulation technologies including engineered THMC processes
- Development of strategies for transparent interaction between research and society in the context of research infrastructures
