Kickstart Python

This course is a short introduction to programming in Python for people with little or no previous programming experience. It uses plotting as its motivating example to teach participants basics in this programming language (e.g., variable assignment, data types, lists, loops, writing own functions, plotting). The idea is to kick-start your Python skills, so that you can either continue to deepen your Python skills by yourself or visit one of our longer, more intense Python courses to strengthen your expertise.

This course is based on lesson plans provided by The Carpentries and will be taught by a certified carpentries instructor. To get an idea of the topics covered in this workshop, you can have a look at the example lesson plans here. But please be aware that the exact content covered in each course can vary slightly, depending on the course instructors and time constraints. You will get more information on this course closer to the starting date.

At the end of the course, you will be able to...

  • Understand and apply basic Python programming concepts, including variables, data types, lists, loops, and functions.

  • Possess foundational skills that enable you to continue learning Python independently or through more advanced courses.
