Dr. Flaminia Catalli is a GFZ alumna and currently lead data scientist at wetransform, a company focusing on green data transformation and accessibility. Flaminia transitioned from academia to the private sector after nearly a decade as a research seismologist. She initially applied her expertise in analyzing data and developing machine-learning algorithms at Ratepay, a fintech company. After 5 years in the role she joined wetransform, driven by her commitment to make a positive societal impact.

Dr. Julia Neelmeijer earned her PhD in Remote Sensing and Geoinformatics at the GFZ, where she built a remarkable 12-year career that included a postdoctoral position and leadership of a team at FERN.Lab, a Helmholtz Innovation Lab. In 2024, she transitioned to industry, joining LiveEO, a Berlin-based company that specializes in infrastructure monitoring and EUDR compliance using satellite imagery and artificial intelligence.
Julia will share how she leveraged her software engineering and leadership expertise to land her role as a Senior Backend Engineer. She’ll also discuss the pivotal role her three-month internship played in preparing her for a successful transition to the private sector.
Dr. Zhǎn Lǐ is a Data Scientist at Xarvio® Digital Farming Solutions (developed and operated by BASF) since 2022. Here, he applies his scientific expertise in remote sensing and geoinformatics to develop accurate, actionable and affordable data products to inform and optimize crop production through digital farming technologies. After several successful Postdoc positions, including at the GFZ and UFZ, Zhǎn Lǐ took the leap into industry merging his commitments to scientific investigation, technological innovation and sustainability development.
