Helmholtz SynCom Networking Dinner on Carbon Dioxide Removal: Science meets Stakeholders

Europe/Berlin
Magnus-Haus Berlin

Magnus-Haus Berlin

Description

The Networking Dinner on Carbon Dioxide Removal seeks to connect industry, politics, and science stakeholders as part of the SynCom project "Scaling up Carbon Dioxide Removal (CDR)."

Throughout the evening, we will delve into discussions on relevant CDR-related questions regarding the different aspects of CDR, encompassing scientific, technological, societal, and policy perspectives.

Additionally, we will explore strategies to foster collaboration between science, start-ups, and established industry leaders for technological advancement. One contribution to foster collaboration within science, but also with industry partners, is our expertise mapping database, which will be officially launched that day.

We are looking forward to the CDR Networking Dinner and wish all participants a successful event!

Dialogue and Dinner on Carbon Dioxide Removal 2h

During the networking dinner, industry, politics, and science will come together to discuss relevant CDR-related questions. The discussions will be guided by 2-3 experts per question. The participants can then freely contribute to discussions of their choice (comparable to a World Café format) and ask their own questions.

The following questions will be discussed during the event:

      • What is the perception of CDR in the German society? - acceptance 2h
        Speaker: Dr Rodrigo Valencia (GERICS/Hereon)
      • How can politics contribute to a responsible and effective application of carbon dioxide removal methods? And how can the ramp-up of technologies be achieved in a timely manner given the required quantities? 2h
Speakers: Julius Lang (Novocarbo), Dr Miranda Boettcher (SWP)
      • Why do we need Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) and what could be possible strategies to implement MRV systems? 2h
Speakers: Dr Allanah Paul (Bellona), Dr Klas Ove Möller (Hereon)
      • What should be improved in collaboration with science and how can we connect start-ups with bigger players/larger companies for technology development? 2h
Speakers: Carla Glassl (Ucaneo), Dr Dhana Wolf (DACStorE)
      • What is our current state of research on CDR methods? - research perspectives, overview of different technologies (e.g. DACCS, BECCS, marine technologies etc.) 2h
Speakers: Prof. Daniela Thrän (UFZ), Lukas Fehr (LMU München, CDRterra), Dr Michael Sswat (CDRmare/GEOMAR)
