Dear Colleagues, 

 

At UFZ, many different models such as simulation, accounting, or data-driven models but also AI and optimization approaches are used in various contexts. While previous workshops focused on linkages between different research fields, the UFZ-wide workshop "Big Data and Modelling" will focus purely on the methods used.  The workshop will take place on February 10th, 2025 in KUBUS.

This workshop aims to map available tools/methodologies and databases that can be transferred to other UFZ-relevant research areas (e.g. land-use optimization methods that could be applied to different sectors such as agriculture, energy, or nature conservation). This exchange aims to support discovering and possibly strengthen interactions between UFZ researchers from different fields through transferring existing methods or coupling collaborations.

In this context, we invite contributions from simulation, accounting, or data-driven models, as well as AI and optimization approaches or coupled versions. The focus should be on the scalability and transferability of the method and - if applicable - on the potential of coupling.  

The workshop will be organized in four major sessions (i.e., Simulation, AI, Optimization, and Accounting models). Two major sessions will run in parallel in the morning, followed by the other major sessions. The hybrid models are integrated into these four major sessions. 

During the workshop, we will take photos of the event for promotional purposes. If you do not wish to have your photo taken, please inform the managers before the event begins. Finally, due to regulations prohibiting catering for internal events, the lunch break will serve as a pause, allowing attendees to use the canteen.
