"Discipline-specific options and standardized output of F-UJI, a tool to automatically assess and improve the FAIRness of research data" with Dr. Robert Huber

The lecture will take place on 7th June 2024 at 10 am CEST in Zoom.

--Abstract--
The FAIR principles now play an important role in promoting and evaluating the openness and accessibility of scientific data, but are rather vaguely defined and only marginally take into account the domain-specific context.

Therefore, discipline-specific FAIR metrics that reflect the habits of the community are needed. Considering the potentially resulting multitude of FAIR metrics, it is also necessary to standardize these metrics as well as the output of FAIR tests and make them machine-readable. This presentation will introduce F-UJI, one of the few available tools for automatically analyzing the FAIRness of a dataset. In detail, the FAIR impact approach for the definition of domain-specific FAIR metrics for the evaluation of the FAIRness of research data will be explained as well as the concrete implementation for F-UJI. The standardized serialization of FAIR metrics and test results is also presented. F-UJI is designed as a web service and is available as open source. It primarily supports common domain-independent standards and best practices for the dissemination of metadata and data, but also some discipline-specific formats and FAIR practices. A user-friendly web application is publicly available at https://www.f-uji.net, which enables a quick FAIR assessment of individual datasets.

Background Information: To stimulate and support interdisciplinary exchange, the Helmholtz Metadata Collaboration (HMC) - in close cooperation with the Helmholtz Information & Data Science Academy (HIDA) - is organising the HMC FAIR Friday lecture series. It is aimed at experienced actors in research data management as well as scientists from all research fields of the Helmholtz Association and beyond. HMC FAIR Friday will feature talks by high-ranking national and international speakers who will bring all participants (even) closer to the world of FAIR data, deepen individual aspects and stimulate discussions.
