Room: Hörsaal Adlershof Gamma-ray bursts are some of the biggest explosions since the Big Bang, releasing as much energy in seconds as the Sun will emit in its entire lifetime. They were discovered accidentally in the middle of the last century, and many questions remain about their nature. They are multiwavelength and multimessenger phenomena; they emit photons across the electromagnetic spectrum, and gravitational waves were detected in coincidence with a gamma-ray burst in 2017. In order to observe these brief and rapidly fading transients, special observational strategies and communication methods are needed.
