ABOUT
In a world increasingly driven by technology, the concept of quantum computing has emerged as a revolutionary force poised to reshape the way we process information.
However, for those uninitiated in the world of physics and quantum mechanics, the topic can seem daunting and unintuitive. In this seminar session, Kerstin Borras (DESY; RWTH Aachen University), Maria Demidik (DESY) and Tom Weber (DESY, DASHH) will demystify quantum computing and make it accessible to a non-physics audience. Starting with the basics, they will embark on a journey into the strange and fascinating realm of quantum physics, where particles can exist in multiple states simultaneously, and information can be manipulated using the principles of superposition and entanglement.
Through clear and relatable analogies, our speakers will build an intuitive understanding of these fundamental quantum concepts. With this foundation in place, they will explore the power of quantum computation and its potential to solve complex problems that are computationally expensive for classical computers. From cryptography to drug discovery, quantum computing promises breakthroughs that could revolutionize industries and transform our everyday lives.

Moderator: Ina Ivanova (Helmholtz AI)
The Helmholtz AI FFT (food for thought) seminar series aims to facilitate knowledge exchange within the Helmholtz AI community (researchers and consultants) and the formation of topic-related interest groups within Helmholtz AI.
The seminars take place the first Thursday of each month, from 11:00 to 12:00, and consist of a 15-min talk from each speaker + 5-min Q&A dedicated to each speaker (facilitated via hackmd).
