Description

PANGAEA - Data Publisher for Earth & Environmental Science¹ is pleased to announce the next edition of our "PANGAEA Community Workshop" series.

This series provides user-oriented training on the services offered by PANGAEA, with a focus on modern research data management practices, following the principles of FAIR², sustainable publication and long-term archiving of scientific data. Participants will also gain a deep understanding about how to discover and integrate relevant data into their research workflows.

In focus this time: FAIR data publications with PANGAEA

What: Join us for a 2-day, 4-hour workshop on FAIR data publications with PANGAEA, where you will learn how to efficiently prepare, submit, and publish your research data. Through a balanced mix of theory, hands-on practice, and live demonstrations, participants will experience the full process of data submission—from initial upload to editorial review—while gaining insights into best practices, authors’ guidelines, automation options, and practical templates for major data types. This event is ideal for researchers seeking to enhance their data publication workflow and ensure their datasets are shared openly and effectively through PANGAEA.

When: 13 and 14 Nov 2025, both 10:30 am - 12:30 am CEST (UTC+2) (breaks included)
Where: Online (via Zoom - the link will be distributed before the event)

Please Note: The event will be held in English and via the video conferencing tool Zoom. Some units are likely to be recorded for those not able to participate.

      Editorial procedures and data publication best practices

      Day 2 of FAIR data publications with PANGAEA offers an in-depth look behind the scenes of the repository’s editorial workflows and quality standards. With a special focus on the Authors’ Guides, participants will gain valuable insights into how data are reviewed and refined for publication. Interactive breakout sessions and open discussions provide space to exchange experiences and challenges, while a practical excursion into best practices and templates for major data types helps translate editorial principles into efficient data publication practice.

        Excursions into Best practices of publishing data with PANGAEA 45m

        In this interactive session, participants will dive into an engaging best practice excursion designed around three topical breakout rooms. Each room focuses on a key data domain —…
        * general field observations and measurements across disciplines like oceanography, geochemistry, palaeontology, and ecology;
        * biology and biodiversity data from the field, mesocosms, or lab; and
        * (what PANGAEA considers) binary data such as imagery, videos, SEG-Y, and NetCDF files.

        Through examples, shared experience and discussion, participants
        will explore how tailored templates and established standards can
        streamline data preparation and ensure robust, consistent and FAIR data publications.

        Speakers: Daniela Ransby (AWI), Dorothee Kottmeier (HMC E&E @PANGAEA/AWI), Flavia Höring (MARUM / PANGAEA), Kathrin Riemann-Campe, Lars Moller, Dr Marianne Rehage (PANGAEA - Data Publisher for Earth & Environmental Science), Stefanie Schumacher (Alfred Wegener Institute)
